The official synopsis read, "A decorated Marine goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from a mysterious threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous directions, the boys will need to leave their childhoods behind." It also stars Riz Ahmed, Octavia Spencer, Rory Cochrane, Lucian-River Chauhan, and Aditya Geddada. The film was earlier called Invasion.
The Deadline described the film as the story two young brothers who go on the run with their father, a Marine played by Ahmed. He is trying to protect them from an unhuman threat. The journey takes them in dangerous and unexpected directions, the boys need to confront hard truths and leave their childhood behind.
The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Rizwan Ahmed or Riz Ahmed is a British actor who was nominated for Oscar for Sound of Metal and Mogul Mowgli.
The film was first announced in October 2018. It was revealed that Michael Pearce would direct the film from a screenplay by himself and Joe Barton. In July 2020, Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer joined the cast of the film. Principal photography for the film began in October 2020.
The sci-fi film will have a directed by Michael Pearce, Encounter will stream on Prime video on December 10, 2021.
