Highlights from Taylor Swift Brit Awards speech: American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift accepted the Global Icon Award and went on to give an empowering speech at Brit Awards 2021.

Swift made history as she became both the first woman and the first non-English person to receive the award. She went on stage as she accepted the award from the Game of Thrones actor Masie Williams.

Popular artists like Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Zoe Kravitz, and Anne Lennox gave insight into Swift's career before she was felicitated. In her acceptance speech, Taylor went on to thank each one of them. She also thanked her fans and the frontline workers who are risking their lives for the health and well-being of others amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Swift then thanked her collaborators, Jack Antonoff, Justin Vernon, Aaron Dessner, and Joe Alwyn for the success of her twin pandemic albums Folklore and Evermore. The singer-songwriter also thanked her family and friends for always backing her up and for seeing her for who she is in both good days and bad.

The Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince singer then went on to dispense advice to artists in the music industry " I need you to hear me when I say that there is no career path that comes free of negativity. If you're being met with resistance, that probably means that you're doing something new."

The 31-year-old said that we all have the right to prove the people who undermine our talents and success wrong. "If you're experiencing turbulence or pressure, that probably means you're rising. And there might be times when you put your whole heart and soul into something, and if it is met with cynicism or skepticism, you cannot let that crush you, you have to let it fuel you," she added.

Swift was in news for her powerful speech at the 2016 Grammys as well, where she won Album of the Year for her album 1989. “If you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you will look around and you will know it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world,” she said.
