Laal Singh Chaddha marks Aamir Khan's return to movies after four years. Helmed by Advait Chandan, the movie stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya Akkineni, with Ahmad Ibn Umar, a Kashmiri boy portraying the younger version of Aamir Khan in the movie. Laal Singh Chaddha is produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao, and Viacom18 Studios.

The movie receiving negative feedback and backlash from the netizens even before its release. The hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha is trending and Twitter users are accusing Aamir Khan of being an anti-nationalist and spreading hatred in the country. Ahead release of his upcoming film, Aamir Khan's old tweet mentioning "India's growing intolerance" has resurfaced on the internet and stirred up controversy.

Back in 2015, in an interview, Aamir Khan had said, "Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will", and his ex-wife Kiran Rao also mentioned leaving the country for the sake of safety, which has enraged people once again has they calling for boycott of the upcoming film.

Khan also issued a clarification of the tweet and responded on the boycott in his latest statement. According to PTI, he said, "That Boycott Bollywood... Boycott Aamir Khan... Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha... I feel sad also because a lot of people who are saying this in their hearts believe I am someone who doesn't like India... In their hearts they believe that... And that's quite untrue." The actor added, "I really love the country... That's how I am. It is rather unfortunate if some people feel that way."

One user wrote, "Don't feel safe here then why release movie here? Go to your safe place as we know where you're heart lies #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha" while another user's tweet reads- "Never forget what Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan stand for. Never forgive these scumbags. Make sure #LaalSinghChaddha Is a massive flop #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha."

Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha has been trending on the internet ever since the makers released its trailer back in May. While some are very excited to see Aamir Khan back on screen, a huge section of the audience has been criticizing Bollywood's obsession with remakes. Recently in an interview, Aamir Khan reacted to the boycott trend on Twitter and said- "Yes, I feel sad. Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their hearts, believe that I am someone who doesn't like India. In their hearts, they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. That's not the case. Please don't boycott my film. Please watch my film."
