Vikrant Massey has confirmed that 12th Fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and starring him in the lead role, has been submitted as an independent entry for the Oscars, according to reports from India Today. 12th Fail delves into the real-life challenges faced by numerous aspirants tackling the UPSC entrance exam. Adapted from Anurag Pathak's book, the film narrates the compelling story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer from Chambal, who courageously embarks on a new academic journey to reignite his ambitions amidst the daunting UPSC exam, symbolising the struggles of millions in pursuit of success.

The team behind the films also arranged screenings in three cities: Bhopal, Mumbai, and Delhi. Over 200 students and parents attended the Bhopal screening, while enthusiasts and media graced the other city events. Initial responses have been remarkably positive, with some labelling it 'The Best Film of the Year 2023.' Reports even suggest that the film earned a standing ovation at these premieres.

Encouraged by this reception, the 12th Fail team has taken a daring step to independently submit the film for the 2024 Academy Awards. Earlier, the report disclosed that the film's warm reception during the early screenings in Bhopal, Delhi, and Mumbai bolstered their decision to pursue an Oscars submission. According to the latest report, Vikrant Massey confirmed the film's submission as an independent nomination for the Oscars.

According to KOIMOI's report, Massey's film has earned an impressive profit of 25.10 crores, marking a remarkable 125.50% return on investment. This success not only categorises the film as a 'hit' at the box office but also positions it ahead of several major releases, ranking as the 7th most profitable film of 2023. It has reportedly outperformed Pathaan (117.28%), Leo (Hindi) with 114.73%, Jawan (113.47%), and Fukrey (112.31%), respectively.
