Based on real-life incident of Badaun gang rape and Una flogging, this movie tells the story of a police detective who is given the task of investigating the disappearance and death of three Dalit girls from their village which leads him to an oppressive system based on caste that is rotting the area. The movie starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Sayani Gupta, Manoj Pahwa and others in important roles.

Raat Akeli Hai

Starring Shivani Raghuvanshi, Shweta Tripathi, Radhika Apte, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Riya Shukla in pivotal roles, this 2020 murder mystery tells the story of a newly married aristocrat who is murdered on the night of his wedding using his own gun. The investigation is handed over to a misfit cop who gets introduced to the secretive family of the deceased and as the investigation proceeds, the matter gets even more complicated as he struggles with a conflicted heart and an array of dark secrets.

Andhadhun

Winning three awards at the National Film Awards and receiving much critical acclaim for the cast and plot, this movie stars Ayushmann Khurrana in the role of a piano player pretending to be blind who does not have a hint about what he would witness. He, unfortunately, gets involved in a high profile murder case of a retired actor. The movie also stars Tabu and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles.

Drishyam

One of the most popular murder mysteries starring Tabu, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta in lead roles, this movie is about Vijay, a cable network owner for whom his family matters the most. He lives with his two daughters and wife in Goa and is leading a peaceful life until one day the son of Goa Police's Inspector General goes missing and they become the prime suspects. The movie shows how he does all that he could to save his family from the danger and accusations.

HIT: The First Case

The movie features a cop from the Homicide Intervention Team who suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and is in a relationship with his colleague. When his PTSD attacks get worse, he takes a six months break, however soon gets on-field after his girlfriend goes missing. The movie stars Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles.

Haseen Dilruba

Starring Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane, this 2021 movie is narrated by a woman suspected of murdering her husband. While the police begins investigating the past and present of the couple, they find infidelity, blackmail, revenge, assault and a neatly planned murder that misleads the police and turns out to be something that none of them could have ever expected.

Kahaani

Starring Vidya Balan in the lead role, this movie is considered one of the best Hindi murder mysteries which focuses on the struggles of a pregnant woman searching through the city of Kolkata day in and day out and looking for clues to find her missing husband. She has come here from London and gets help from a local police officer and together they investigate the whereabouts of her husband. However, there is more than meets the eye as fake identities and revenge are involved.

Talvar

Based on the real incidents of the 2008 Noida double murder case, this movie stars Konkana Sen Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Neeraj Kabi and Sohum Shah in pivotal roles. The story is about the murder of a fourteen-year-old daughter of the Talwar's and their servant in Noida whose bodies were found in the bedroom and terrace respectively. The investigating officer looks for every little detail which only complicates the matter as everyone had different and conflicting perspectives and the prime suspects are the parents of the girl.

Manorama Six Feets Under

This intriguing 2007 murder mystery is full of cliffhangers and fake identities that connect a complex chain of events that happen to a public works engineer working in a small town named Lokhot in Rajasthan. He has published a novel once titled Manorama that miserably but one day he is approached by the wife of a politician claiming to be a fan and asking him to help her reveal her husband's extramarital affair. However, it is later discovered she was not what she pretended to be and thus begins a series of murders, deceit and dangerous chase.

The Body

This 2019 movie is about the death of a powerful businesswoman whose corpse disappears from the morgue before the autopsy and a police inspector is given the charge of the case to find the corpse as well as the person who disappeared it. Questioning the woman's husband, the cop enters a web of lies, dominance, grudge and mysteries and is guided by the presence of the dead woman around him to crack the case. The movie stars Sobhita Dhulipal, Rishi Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi and Vedhika in pivotal roles.
