At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, Lizzo won the Video for Good award. During her time on stage, she addressed the young voters in the audience and addressed the previously publicised fat-shaming remarks of comedian Aries Spears. The singer-songwriter defeated fellow finalists Stromae, Latto, Rina Sawayama, and Kendrick Lamar to win the award for the music video for her tune "About Damn Time."

“I don’t know what ‘music videos for good means,'” conveyed Lizzo upon bearing the award. “But I do know what your vote means, and that’s a fucking lot. Your vote means everything to me.” “Now, to the bitches that got something to say about me in the press… ” Lizzo then counted, to gaieties from the audience, a conceivable consideration to Spears’ comments. “I’m not gonna say nothing,” said Lizzo as she held up her award, mentioning she gets appeals to “clap back” against haters. “Why don’t you clap back? Because bitch, I’m winning.”

Who Is Lizzo

With the release of her third studio album, Cuz I Love You (2019), which peaked inside the top five of the US Billboard 200, Lizzo earned mainstream popularity. The singles "Juice" and "Tempo" came from the album. Two years after its initial release, Lizzo's 2017 single "Truth Hurts," which became a viral sleeper success, was featured on the album's deluxe version.

It became the longest-leading solo song by a female rapper and peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Around this time, her 2016 single "Good as Hell" also saw success on the charts, peaking in the top ten of both the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100.

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards saw Lizzo receive the most nominations of any artist that year with eight, including one for each of the "Big Four" categories. Lizzo went on to win the Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Pop Solo Performance for "Truth Hurts," and Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song "Jerome" awards.

Lizzo's track "Rumors," which featured Cardi B, was released in 2021 and made its Billboard Hot 100 debut in the top five. The lead track off her upcoming fourth studio album Special (2022), "About Damn Time," debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

In addition to performing music and rapping, Lizzo has also worked as an actor. She provided the voice for the animated movie UglyDolls (2019) and made an appearance in the drama-comedy Hustlers (2019). She also serves as the host of the reality TV show Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls on Amazon Prime Video, for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Competition Program.
