Priyanka Chopra Jonas Celebrates 20 Years Of Being Crowned Miss World

Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently shared an Instagram post commemorating the 20th anniversary of her Miss World crowning moment. She posted an IGTV that chronicled her family’s reactions to her winning the title at the age of 18 in 2000.

The video starts with the announcement of Chopra Jonas’ historic win. An overwhelmed Jonas can be seen waving to the crowds as she is crowned. Additionally, a voice-over remarks that she is the fifth Indian to win the Miss World pageant. The video then forwards to the present day and features Chopra Jonas reliving her winning moment with her mother Dr Madhu Chopra and her brother Siddharth Chopra.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Family Recalls Her Winning Moment

Recalling her daughter’s win, Dr Madhu Chopra says in the video, “First runner-up was announced and Miss World is Miss India, Priyanka Chopra. We were both like literally under the chairs and the entire hall erupted, all the Indians just stood up erupted.”

The IGTV also features Jonas’ brother reminiscing about the moment. He says, “I remember at the Millennium Dome being on the stage. I was only 11-12 years at the time. But mixed feelings for me … I was happy that she won but the very next moment I learned that I would be going to the US for further studies instead of her.”

Priyanka Chopra Jonas goes on to comment that back in 2000, she had no idea about the impact of her win on her family.

Dr Madhu Chopra’s Typical “Indian Mom” Comment

The video ends on a hilarious note as Chopra Jonas and her mother recall the latter’s typical “Indian Mom” comment post the crowning moment. Dr Madhu Chopra says that she “had tears streaming down” her eyes while hugging her daughter. However, instead of congratulating her daughter on her win, she recalls that she did the “stupidest thing” and asked her daughter, “Babe, now what will happen to your studies.”

Within hours, Priyanka Chopra’s post garnered around two thousand comments and was viewed over two million times. Notably, back in July, Chopra Jonas had posted a similar IGTV wherein she reminisced about her journey towards winning the Miss India crown in 2000.
