Assam CM Launches 2 Schemes: On Monday, CM Sarbananda Sonowal launched two schemes to assist college students and literary bodies of the state with monetary help.

Under the Pragyan Bharati scheme, Rs 1,500 each was given to a total of 3,26,046 college students for purchasing textbooks. Additionally, Rs161 crore was reimbursed as admission fees for four lakh eligible students.

Under the second scheme, Bhasha Gourab, the state government provided 21 Sahitya Sabhas (literary bodies) with a total of Rs 43 crore as a contribution towards their corpus funds. Under this scheme, 600 writers received an amount of 50,000 each, as a help for their literary activities.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “The youth must achieve more and more knowledge via education.” He further added, “Literature is a reflection of the society. We are taking all steps to ensure writers and indigenous Sahitya Sabhas get the financial assistance they need. I hope students utilise the opportunity given to them under these two schemes.”

Additionally, the minister also mentioned that the state government aims at providing higher education to students coming from financially weaker backgrounds.  He urged parents and teachers to encourage the younger generation to actively take part in sports and cultural activities for their holistic development. “Because of the continuous efforts by the state government, Assam stands on the second position in India for educational development,” said Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. “Apart from the assistance given to students to purchase textbooks, the government is also planning to give the students pocket money,” added Sarma.

Besides the two schemes launched, the Assam government has taken steps for providing primary education to all students in their mother tongues till Class 5. Assam CM Launches Two Schemes

Previously, the Assam government decided to give Rs 100 per day for girls going to school and college. The announcement was made by the state’s Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. “We want boys and girls to enjoy the same kind of care. Many parents marry off their daughters early, thinking that their sons would take care of them. This mindset needs to change,” said Sarma. Read about it more here
