Who is Mimi Choi?

Choi was born in the Chinese territory of Macau. It was formerly a Portuguese colony on China's southeast coast. Macau's distinguishing European and Chinese influences are well-known. Mimi Choi and her family, including her parents, later relocated to Canada and are now settled there.

Mimi Choi received her degree from the Blanche Macdonald Centre in 2014. She is a professional makeup artist that specialises in illusion art and practises in Vancouver. Mimi's distinct style has made her a part of pop culture, with appearances in numerous worldwide television shows, periodicals, and music videos. Her most well-known work was her makeup on actor and model Ezra Miller at the 2019 Met Gala.

Choi explained that the vivid and often terrifying images she sees influence her art. She suffers from sleep paralysis, a condition in which the body becomes temporarily unresponsive while the mind is awake, and she experiences strange visions throughout her bouts. Meanwhile, photoshopped digital art, surreal paintings by artists like Salvador Dali and M.C. Escher, and patterns and textures from her environment are all sources of inspiration for her.
