When 27-year-old Sam Adekugbe left for Qatar, his mother couldn't be more proud. From posting his picture on her social media to share the latest updates about the team's travel to sharing her's journey, she has been participating in every way she can to level up the excitement.
Why wouldn't she? Not every aspiring footballer makes it to the national team and not every footballer makes it to the world cup. Her son did, and she is leaving no stone unturned to support him, even if it is from her home thousands of miles away from Qatar.
Football player Sam Adekugbe's mother Dee's happiness knew no bounds as she watched her son play for the Canadian football team at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
Sam Adekugbe plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor as a left-back. He is currently part of the Canadian team squad that is participating in the FIFA World Cup.
Recently, during the Group F match between Canada and Belgium, Adekugbe stepped on the field and watching him, from far away, was his mother Dee.
In a video recently shared on social media, Dee can be seen jumping with joy and full of excitement as she spotted her son representing his team and country on the global stage. The heartwarming video, now gone viral, is winning hearts on the internet.
Adekugbe played last night's opening match for Canada as a substitute against the Belgium team and his mother shouted, "this is everything," and looked at the television with pride. "My son is in the FIFA World Cup. Hallelujah. Thank you, Jesus," she yells while hopping with excitement.
ESPN FC, which shares live updates from the world cup, posted the video on their Instagram writing, "Sam Adekugbe’s mom was so enthusiastic to see her son play for Canada."
Social media users felt Dee's joy and appreciated her love and support for her son. "Look at this Mama praise dancing. Love to see this joy," wrote one user. "True mother," commented another. While Canada lost its first match, it was evident that the team played extremely well. "Love this. Canada deserved better too. Very impressed by their performance,” wrote a fan.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 commenced in Qatar on November 20 and it will go on until December 18.
