WATCH: Dad Creates Unforgettable Duet With Daughter After Broken Wrist (Image: Screengrab from YouTube video).
A girl-dad never fails to impress! An 18-year-old violinist, Mary Leahy, was disappointed when she broke her wrist days before her performance in the Peterborough Music Family. The Leahy family have a musical tradition of playing in festivals every year, however, the little violinist was gloomy and thought would be sitting sidelines this year.
However, we all know how dads are always superheroes and do not let their children sit gloomily, dads are our safety net and our day saviour. Here's a heartwarming tale of one such dad who saved the day for her daughter as a video on the internet showcases the father-daughter duo playing the violin on stage, with their commendable coordination and teamwork.
Young violinist Mary Leahy dreamed of dazzling the stage and audience of the Peterborough Music Festival with her first-ever solo performance, however, her dreams seemed to fall flat when a few days before her big day she fell from a farm cart and splinted her wrist.
Leahy who claims herself to be the "last person to do something stupid" did not initially expect her wrist to have broken after her farm cart fall, however, when her wrist was swollen and very sour the next day she woke up, she realised her injury and thought she will be sitting in the sidelines this year in the music festival.
Mary has been touring with her parents for 12 years, after starting fiddle lessons at age four. Family Leahy plays for the band 'The MacMaster', which consists of Mary's talented mom Natalie MacMaster, her six younger siblings, and Mary's dad and recognised violinist, Donnel Leahy. The Celtic family has a tradition of playing in the Peterborough Music Festival every year.
But Mary's Dad did not let her dream of solo performance shatter as he came up with the unique solution of turning a solo performance into a heartwarming duet. Mary's best friend offered to play the piano while Donnel jumped in to fiddle.
How could he have let his daughter's performance get cancelled? Instead, he lent his hand (quite literally) to his daughter. In this innovative performance, Mary held the violing from her good hand and pressed the notes on the fingerboard, as her dad cradled the violing bows expertly manoeuvring it across the strings, giving a spectacular musical performance.
Mary said: "I honestly don’t know how I pulled it off, but I did." She added, "His (her dad's) left hand was playing the fingers on my back which was tickling me, while I had to imagine myself playing the bow with my right hand."
The father-daughter duo with the initial intentions of saving Mary's day are now thinking to make this a regular gimmick of their performances as Mary says "I loved having my dad help me out with the solo."
Donnel who is a musician himself, toured with Shania Twain in 1997 and is known as one of the world's best fiddle players by Wisconsin University. He has released several music CDs with his wife and the Cetalic Family also has a Christmas LP.
