News about Alia Bhatt was sensationalised after she announced she was pregnant on June 27. Social media users were bombarding the timeline with congratulatory messages, memes, and casual sexism. Media houses and Bollywood pages went on a rampage and began spamming the internet with theories and unconfirmed facts.

An Instagram user named Srishti Garg made a video calling out Bollywood pages that took the news of Bhatt’s pregnancy and sensationalised every statement they could. Every possible story that could be made regarding the news was made within the first hour.

Somehow, the topic of Bhatt’s pregnancy resulted in discussions about actors Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif. The unborn child was also instantly compared to Taimur Ali Khan, son of actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan.

Important questions were asked, like “Will Bhatt’s pregnancy affect the release of Brahmashtra Part 2."  The day after the announcement, Bhatt changed her Instagram display picture, which lead to multiple articles regarding the change and making a connection between the new display picture and the announcement.

Reportedly, a source revealed details about the baby’s room. That’s right, someone decided to reveal pertinent information about the baby’s room colour. The source said that the couple was planning to have a colour-neutral room. They also added that once Bhatt returned to their home, the couple might begin looking into the room’s decor, and added that the room would not be pink or blue. While it is hard to imagine that the aforementioned news had a target audience, it was still published.

Even if Kapoor was planning on flying to Unite Kingdom “to bring home” Bhatt, it still wouldn’t constitute news. Bhatt responded to the report by saying that “No one needs to pick anyone up. I am a woman, not a parcel!”
