More than 50 people have already died as a result of the extreme weather in the US. Social media users have posted videos and pictures of vehicles completely covered in snow and residents trapped inside ice-covered homes. But Taylor's family, who reside in Charlotte, suffered a heartbreaking loss as a result of the extreme weather. A video clip she took from inside the car and sent to her family showed the car stuck in the snow with the wind howling outside.

Shawnequa Brown, Taylor's sister, told the nearby WSOC-TV, "I don't know if any of us really knew how serious it was; we didn't see the news, we didn't really know what was going on in Buffalo."

Taylor intended to wait in the car until the storm passed before taking a short walk home. But her dead body was discovered inside the vehicle. According to her family, she was stranded in the car for 18 hours. After Taylor posted the video, the family begged emergency personnel and complete strangers for assistance in finding her. Eventually, on Saturday afternoon, her body was discovered. The precise time is unclear.

As numbing cold and heavy "lake-effect" snow persisted through the holiday weekend, most of the fatalities were concentrated in and around Buffalo, which is located on the edge of Lake Erie in western New York. This snow is caused by frigid air moving over warmer lake waters.
