An American woman has credited AI chatbot ChatGPT for saving her life, and the life of her unborn baby. What began as a casual question soon turned into a life-threatening emergency that she narrowly escaped, thanks to the chatbot’s unexpected warning. Natallia Tarrien, a photographer based in Charlotte, North Carolina, was eight months pregnant when she decided to ask ChatGPT a health-related question “just for fun.” She shared her experience in an emotional Instagram post that has now gone viral, racking up more than 34 million views.

Tarrien recalled the moment things took a serious turn. “I asked ChatGPT a question… just for fun, “Why does my jaw feel tight?”

At first, she didn’t think much of the symptom. “It didn’t feel serious,” she said. But to her surprise, ChatGPT urged her to check her blood pressure. “So I did. It was high — really high. I thought it would go down… but it only kept climbing,” she shared. Even though she wasn’t feeling dizzy or showing major signs of concern, ChatGPT remained firm. “Call an ambulance. Now,” it warned her.

Tarrien listened. By the time she reached the hospital, her blood pressure had skyrocketed to 200/146. Doctors immediately decided to deliver the baby. Both mother and child are now safe, but one doctor’s words left a deep impact on her: “If you had gone to sleep that night… you wouldn’t have woken up.”

For five days after delivery, her blood pressure continued to rise. “I even lost my vision for a moment. I still get chills thinking about it,” she wrote. Expressing her gratitude, she ended her post with, “Thank you, ChatGPT. You saved two lives.”

Similar Incident

This isn’t the first time ChatGPT has helped someone in a health emergency. Earlier this year, a Reddit user shared a similar story of how the AI tool helped diagnose him with a serious condition called rhabdomyolysis after he felt unusually tired following a workout.

The man explained he had only done basic exercises like push-ups, squats, and planks but felt “like I got hit by a bus” the next morning. He initially brushed off the symptoms but grew concerned when they didn’t go away. That’s when he turned to ChatGPT.

“I explained my symptoms to ChatGPT, and it recommended I immediately go to the hospital, as my symptoms aligned with moderate to severe rhabdomyolysis,” he wrote on Reddit.

Rhabdomyolysis is a condition where muscle tissue breaks down rapidly, leading to kidney damage and other severe complications. It can even be fatal if not treated in time. Doctors confirmed the diagnosis after a series of tests, and the man was hospitalised for a week. “They performed lab work, and it turned out that I had developed severe rhabdomyolysis. I also used ChatGPT to analyse my lab results, which was on par with what the medical team was saying, " he wrote.
