What Is National That Sucks Day
Did you know what April 15 is? It is the day that Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, the date that the indestructible Titanic ship sank into the bottom of the ocean, and it is Tax Day in the United States. Too many mishaps... sucks, right? Well, that’s why the day has been celebrated as "National That Sucks Day" since 2005 in America.

On April 15, 1865, America’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was shot to death by John Wilkes Booth. On April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic set off from Europe for New York on its first voyage. However, four days later, the cruise struck an iceberg, broke apart, and met its tragic ending with the loss of over 1500 people. It continues to remain in two pieces deep under the North Atlantic Ocean.

National That Sucks Day is a holiday created by Bruce Novotny to celebrate everything that sucks in the world.

History Behind That Sucks Day

"That Sucks Day" was created by Bruce Novotny. He started the website thatsucks.net after noticing that April 15 had been a very unfortunate day for many reasons. He intends to "celebrate failure, incompetence, dissatisfaction, anger, disillusionment, mediocrity, apathy, frustration, vengeance, cynicism, futility, chaos, sarcasm, tomfoolery, buffoonery, and jackassery. Indeed, all things that suck."

The website tells people about everything that sucks dating back billions of years. It’s a humorous and sarcastic website that has been on the internet since 2005. The day even has its own icon: A cranky old curmudgeon named "Sir Isuck Newton." Apparently, there is no solid reason behind Novotny's choice of April 15 to celebrate this day. He just wanted this day to celebrate all the things that suck in the world.

How To Celebrate That Sucks Day?

Novonty suggests that people could celebrate the day by holding a "rotten Easter egg hunt" or by playing "Pin the Tail on the Human."

Never let the day suck though. Why let unfortunate things that barely lasted for 5 minutes of our day ruin the entire day? Bad things happen, and life sucks sometimes. But it’s just one life, and shouldn’t we make the most of it?

Like it or not, our lives are going to be a rollercoaster journey filled with ups and downs. Like Novotny’s website mentions, "If the world didn’t suck, we’d all fall off." Maybe the good and the bad maintain the balance in life. While it’s okay to take a day off, whine, cry, and let it all out, we just always need to remember to get up and keep going. All that matters is taking the time to heal, and then rising from the ashes like the Phoenix!
