As the wildfires in California have caused devastating destruction, even in the Hollywood hub of Los Angeles, rumours circulated that the much-awaited 97th Oscar Awards will be cancelled or postponed. At least four members of the Oscars' Board of Governors, as well as its former CEO, have lost their homes in the fires, Vogue reported. However, the Academy's CEO Bill Kramer and President, Janet Yang have said in a statement that the event will happen as planned on March 2. The function will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and televised live on ABC, streamed live on Hulu and airs live in more than 200 territories worldwide.

There are reported delays in the events leading up to the Oscars. According to the organisation, the nominations will be announced on January 23 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The announcement will be broadcast as usual, though this time without any press in the audience. The Oscar organisation also announced that the nominees' luncheon, scheduled for February 10, has been cancelled due to the wildfires, though nominees may still be invited to smaller dinners with their fellow contenders closer to the show itself.
