Jillian Lauren, an author and the wife of Scott Shriner, Weezer (band) bassist, was allegedly shot by a Los Angeles Police official in a hit-and-run case. The 51-year-old was shot in the Eagle Rock neighbourhood for allegedly pointing a handgun at officers. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was booked in absentia for attempted murder, according to a Newsweek report.
Case in detail
The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 7, when California Highway Patrol responded to a three-car hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway. Two suspects remain at large, however, one suspect fled into the residential Eagle Rock neighbourhood. The LAPD tracked the suspect near Jillian Lauren's residence.
That’s when Lauren stepped outside her home holding a 9mm handgun. The LAPD said in a press statement that the officers ordered her to drop the weapon multiple times, but she refused. “She pointed the gun at officers – which is when they fired on her." About 30 minutes later, she emerged with the family’s babysitter and surrendered.
Police confirmed that Lauren had no connection to the hit-and-run case. A handgun was recovered from her residence, and she’s been released from custody after treatment. However, her legal situation could change depending on whether prosecutors decide to file formal charges. Surveillance footage of the shooting has been released.
