The celebration featured a pink cake with the words “1-year celibacy” boldly written across it, with a large “X” drawn over the text in icing. A video of the cake-cutting moment, shared on Instagram, quickly went viral, gaining over 700,000 views. It also received thousands of positive comments, many of them from people saying they now feel inspired to celebrate small yet meaningful moments in their own lives.

Take a look at the video here.

“I personally have just been trying to put myself out there and experience things, and that was worth celebrating,” Kane shared. She added, “Something I love about this generation is just everybody is so unserious, and it brings so much more joy just back into little things and minor victories in life.”

Kane’s celebration was sparked by a recent reconnection with a former date. Two years ago, she had gone out with a coworker, but the relationship ended with both of them ghosting each other. Unexpectedly, the same person contacted her again just two weeks ago, asking if she would join him as his plus-one at a family wedding.

Seeing a chance to turn her own life into a rom-com moment, Kane accepted. She saw it as a real-life version of the 2005 romantic comedy The Wedding Date, where Amy Adams’ character finds love while attending a wedding with a stranger.

The party was thrown together at the last minute but quickly turned into a joyful gathering. While it centred around Kane’s personal milestone, her friends also used the moment to open up about their own dating lives and experiences. Kane explained the idea behind the celebration was to support trying new things and “just opening yourself up to saying yes to the world sometimes.”
