Girl Asks Police To Prove Santa Claus Exists
While questioning whether or not Santa Claus is real, a young girl decided to use science to figure out whether the legendary figure exists. The girl from the United States asked the local police to run a DNA test on Christmas cookies to prove Santa Claus' existence.

The 10-year-old Scarlett Doumato wrote to the local police department seeking to formally test food particles from leftover carrots and cookies that were left out for Santa Claus.

The girl sent the "evidence" to the police who then forwarded it to the Forensics Unit for analysis and wrote in a note, "I took a sample of a cookie and carrots that I left for Santa and the reindeer on Christmas Eve and I was wondering if you could take a sample of DNA and see if Santa is real?"

According to the authorities in Cumberland, Rhode Island, they received the handwritten letter earlier this month.

In a press release, Cumberland's police chief Matthew J Benson said, "This young lady obviously has a keen sense for truth and the investigative process and did a tremendous job packaging her evidence for submission."

Benson added that the police department would do their "very best" to provide the young girl with the answers she desired.

The police department also replied that they had "uncovered evidence in support of Santa Claus' presence in her neighbourhood" on Christmas Eve. They attached an image of what appears to be a deer with antlers and said they were awaiting test results and asked residents to stay tuned for more information regarding Santa's existence.

The press release described the young girl as a "young investigator" and added that Chief Benson immediately instructed his Investigative Division to forward her evidence to the Rhode Island Department of Health-Forensic Sciences Unit for analysis.

During an interview with Scarlett Doumato's mother, Alyson, she revealed that her daughter is always "a little bit sceptical" and the young investigator has her own home detective kit at home.

Chief Benson that Scarlett's research and television-watching habits allowed her to send in the perfect evidence. He added, "She did it right by the book, so we're taking it just as serious as she is."
