This US Woman With Double Uterus Is Carrying One Baby Each In Both

A woman in Alabama, US, was born with the rare medical condition of double uterus that occurs in 1 in every 1000 women. She is now pregnant with and carrying one child each in the uteruses. Hatcher is a mom of three healthy children. However, her recent pregnancy is considered a high-risk pregnancy. 

Hatcher knew since she was 17 that she was born with the rare medical anomaly of "uterine didelphys" or double uteri that occurs in 0.3% of females in the world. Despite the risks, Hatcher and her husband Caleb are very positive about welcoming two new members into their family and have created an Instagram page to take us all on their journey. 

Woman With Double Uterus Carrying Babies In Both

32-year-old Kelsey Hatcher was born with a rare medical anomaly of two uteri in Alabama, US. She has now stunned doctors around the world with the unique condition of being pregnant with a foetus in both of her uteri. 

According to reports, the mom of three, Hatcher and her husband were amazed that she was once again pregnant, but they were taken by more surprise when during their eighth week of ultrasound visit, they found out she was pregnant with two babies and conceived a baby each separate uterus. 

Through an Instagram post, the couple explained how they were kind of "blown away" during their first ultrasound and had "LOTS of laughs."

Dr Richard Davis, a multi-specialist in high-risk pregnancies explained how Hatcher's condition of uterus didelphys is already a one-in-a-million occurrence condition, and the odds of being pregnant in each of the uterus at the same time are astounding. 

Meanwhile, Dr Shweta Patel obstetrician-gynaecologist caring for Hatcher explained how she must have ovulated separately resulting in eggs in each fallopian tube coming down to each side of the uterus and then sperm travelled in each separate uterus fertilising the eggs at each side. 

Doctors also said the pregnancy could be a high-risk pregnancy as the uterus might experience contractions at different times that could differ from hours to days, to even weeks and a cesarean operation could be needed as per the conditions unfolding at the time. 

However, Kelsey and her husband seem to be positive about the pregnancy despite the risks as they believe they are in the best hands of doctors in Alabama having full faith in them. 

This is not the first case of pregnancies in both the uterus as in 2019 a 20-year-old woman in Bangladesh, Arifa Sultana, delivered two healthy twins 26 days apart from each other. Hatcher in her Instagram said she has researched about two such cases but was unable to contact any of those women. 

Hatcher has earlier had healthy pregnancies full-term with zero complications before or after the delivery and credited her past doctors for their diligence. 

Hatcher was told by the doctors that these babies would be called fraternal twins
