Recently a video of a five-year-old Indian girl singing the Indian National Anthem in Army uniform along with the Indian Army soldiers went viral on social media and caught the attention of many celebrities and eminent personalities, including the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, himself. The video is of Esther Hnamte, a young singer from Mizoram whose beautiful voice garnered the praise of many Indians.

Who Is Esther Hnamte? All About Mizoram's Five Year Old Singer

Esther Hnamte is a young singer hailing from the Indian state of Mizoram who recently became the talk of the town when Indian Army collaborated with her for a music video where she sings Jan Gana Man in an Army uniform. Born on June 9, 2016, this child prodigy came into limelight in the year 2020 when one of her videos performing the popular Hindi song, Maa Tujhe Salaam by A.R. Rahman, went viral. The video made her YouTube's fastest viewer-gaining Mizoram artist.

Esther is the youngest daughter of Lalrinenga Hnamte and R. Lalawmpui, her father is a taxi driver in Lunglei, Mizoram. As per reports, her mother faced pregnancy complications during her birth and doctor's suggested abortion but her mother decided to give birth. Esther was born with a high-pitched voice and everyone knew she would be a good singer in future. Her musical interests were recognised and supported by her mother who reportedly herself was a part of the church choir.

Living in Mizoram, Esther did not know Hindi and English and had to memorise lyrics of songs several times. However, her sense of tunes and music was good since she was just two years old. She recorded her first video of the Hindi song Maa Tujhe Salaam in 2020 during COVID-19. The video broke viewer records on YouTube and gained praise of A.R. Rahman, Chief Minister of Mizoram and PM Modi.

On August 13, 2021, Esther again released a ">video, this time singing Jan Gana Man with 3 Assam Rifles posted in Lunglei. She was approached by the Army officials themselves for this video as they were impressed by her patriotic singing. Other songs that Esther has sung include One Day At A Time, Dilna Hlawhtlin Tirtu Lalpa and The Greatest Gift Of All.

Esther was awarded a special award by P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, Governor of Mizoram, in November 2020 and gave her first performance in public when the Governor visited Lunglei. In January 2021, she became the Amul girl and the youngest recipient of Young Achievers Award by Dalmia group. She became a life member of Mizo Zaimi Inzawmkhawm, Mizoram's singers society and the youngest member as well. MZI awarded her the Non-Native Award in November 2021 for her National Anthem video.
