PV Sindhu is close to making history once again. She is in the finals of the World Championship, clinching the spot with a straight game win. The Olympic silver medallist defeated World No 10 Chen Yufei 21-13, 21-10. This will be a third medal for Sindhu in the World Championship. She becomes the only second Indian to reach the finals of World Championship. Saina Nehwal achieved that feat in the last edition at Jakarta.

By doing so the Olympic silver medallist assures India of a silver medal. The World Championship is being held in Glasgow, Scotland. Sindhu picked bronze medals twice in the 2013 and 2014 editions respectively.

Sindhu, 22 takes on Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the final. She won over Okuhara thrice and lost equal number of times. However Sindhu displayed an upper hand in the last two meetings at Rio Olympics and 2017 Singapore Open.

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu was born on 5 July 1995. She is currently world no 4 in the BWF World Ranking. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal. She is one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic medal – other being Saina Nehwal.
