A woman in Agra has been accused of beating a security guard who reportedly ill-treated the dogs in the neighborhood. The woman claimed to be an animal activist, adding that she had received complaints about this man for cruel behaviour towards animals and she came in to intervene in the situation which got out of hand as seen in the viral video.
At any given point, if a person irrespective of their gender is found to be abusing and misbehaving with another person, it should be condemned. If one follows the news and what happens around us, they would know that women are often on the receiving end of ill-treatment and abuse. However, there have been frequent incidents in the last few years where women have been caught on video assaulting men. These videos are often used by the anti-feminism brigade or the men's rights activists to target feminism. But when has feminism ever endorsed predatory behaviour among women?
Viral video: Woman Beats Security Guard For Animal Cruelty
The woman in question, Dimpi Mahendru later released a video in which she alleged, "On Saturday also, I got a call about cruelty on dogs, and I arrived at the colony. The guard was seen beating dogs with a stick. I tried to stop him, but he began to beat me. I snatched his stick. He asked his friend to shoot a video of the incident. The guard was also mentally ill."
In the viral clip, she can be seen abusing the guard in coarse language and beating him with a stick as she threatened to take the man to Bharatiya Janata Party MP and animal activist Maneka Gandhi. As per news reports the guard filed a complaint with the New Agra Police Station and the investigating officers are trying to get details about the woman. The police have assured that legal action will be taken in the matter.
When such cases often come to light, people immediately point fingers at feminism and call it an enabler of violence against men perpetrated by women. "Her name is Dimpi Mahendru. She is said to be a teacher in a Pvt school at Agra and is found abusing a security guard violently. All in the name of aggressive feminism," reads one such tweet.

A similar situation happened in 2021, in Lucknow, when a woman slapped a cab driver after he came in her way while she was crossing the road while the signal was green. The viral video had stirred the internet and both the parties filed complaints against each other. For months people dissed feminism, alleging that women were misusing the empathy for their gender and behaving in a problematic way with men.
But how is blaming feminism for women's violent behaviour justified? If a person supports women's quest for equal rights, does that mean they automatically support women when they are wrong too? Feminism never endorses violence or abuse and advocates equal rights for all. Which means, it refrains from seeing one gender as superior and another as inferior. And yet, demanding equality is seen as advocacy of oppressing men.
Any woman who assaults a man deserves to face legal action. The question on whether or not feminism supports her shouldn't even arise, because it doesn't. Feminism identifies violence as a problem, but with a much wider scope than it is given credit for. While feminists raise powerful questions around violence against women, they also acknowledge assault endured by men, transgender and non-binary people, calling for a more in-depth and layered conversation on the issue.
So before blatantly blaming feminism for women's violent behaviour, people need to learn about the feminist movement and its core values. Else, they are simply misleading a very important conversation on violence against men which needs our urgent attention.
