It is quite normal for young people these days to struggle with career choices. With increasing competition, fewer jobs and an increased number of youth taking risks and exploring different and unique career options, it is seen that young people take time to achieve that stable financial state.

Hence, from internships to part-time jobs, we see a lot of people doing odd jobs for financing their education, dream job preparation and life. They try not to ask their parents for money as it seems inappropriate to them. But why is it so? What makes us not ask for money from our parents as we grow old?

Why Does Financial Dependence On Parents Feel Inappropriate As You Grow Old?

Growing up is considered becoming independent. As you grow up, you are supposed to support your parents and help them with finances. We often hear people saying that they want their children to be their support in old age. Those notions and beliefs scare youth from asking for money from their parents as they grow old as think they might be a burden to them. They feel that they must serve their parents and not stress them out.

Growing up, we are told that we are supposed to become financially independent and have a secure future. Our parents look forward to us leading a safe, secure and financially stable life. However, it is not always that our jobs pay well. Telling this to your parents seems like a bad option as it might stress them out that your work life is not as secure as they expected it to be. To keep their family away from their stress, they hide their financial status.

There are times when you know that your family is not that well off and financing your studies or job preparation might not be possible for them. In such times, people start thinking that it is on their shoulders to finance their life on their own. It does not feel illegal but inappropriate to ask.

Society also plays a role in making financial dependence on parents seem illegal. Society doesn't back off from taunting people for not earning enough. They believe that chasing dream jobs or studying further is a burden on parents. The pressure of what people will say is also an important reason that grown-ups try not to ask their parents for money.

It is good to become financially independent and a pillar of support to your ">parents. It is okay to take some time and prepare better for your dream job and not earn in the meanwhile. It is okay to struggle, you know you will find a way but till then, it is fine to look up to your parents. They will always be ready to help you when things get out of hand. They have and always be your support and backbone.
