It is often found that women’s careers are fundamentally different from men’s in that they are non-linear and often circuitous. There are on-ramps and off-ramps and scenic-routes to a woman’s career, and we navigate this highway – by virtue of society, or nature, or both – by adapting to different roles during different phases of our lives. Women’s careers are an amalgamation of not only our professional lives, but personal ones as well, several times course-corrected because of marriage, motherhood, elderly care, or several other personal reasons.

But women are resilient. No matter the obstacles, we find a route around it and keep going. Sometimes we might lose our way and feel that we will never reach the light at the end of the tunnel. But it is important that we keep persevering – even though it might not seem like this is how we had imagined our careers would play out.

It is in this labyrinth that we might sometimes find ourselves physically constrained in leaving our home boundaries to pursue our careers.  Whether it is to tend to an infant, an ailing elder or household needs – work-from-home can be a great stop-gap arrangement to continue your income while tending to your personal requirements.

At every age your objectives change, they evolve; they incorporate new reasons for being. And the good news is that in the virtual world of today, opportunities abound in the types of roles available to women who want it all. There are so many new jobs created almost every day, which would have been unimaginable 5-10 years ago. From social media management to event-planning to public-relations to energy consulting to yoga training to travel guide – the oyster is rich with pearls for the picking.  And most of these new jobs do not require a 9-5 presence in the office.
