Narwal and Kalita were arrested in May 2020 for allegedly being part of a premeditated role in communal violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020 amid the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
The three activists were released from Tihar jail after one year. They were arrested in May 2020 in connection with the Northeast Delhi riots.

The activists have been asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with two sureties. They have also been asked to not leave the country and provide their phone numbers to the local SHO. Apart from that, they are asked to not temper the evidence or contact the prosecution witnesses.Â

Lawyer representing Delhi government argued that Kalita is an “influential person” and so she can easily “tamper with the evidence” of her involvement in the riots.
No prejudice would be caused to the respondent’s investigation by grant of relief to the petitioner, said Delhi HC.
“The incarceration of these activists is a violation of their right to fair and unbiased treatment at the hands of the justice system,” the letter reads.
