On August 31, the WHO said the variant has been detected in Colombia and has since been reported in other South American countries and in Europe.

The doctor was infected by both Alpha and Delta variants of SARS-CoV-2 at the same time.
First it was a 66-year-old man who tested positive for the Kappa variant in UP’s Sant Kabir Nagar. He later died. The other patient is a resident doctor, 23, at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Gorakhpur.
