Camila Lachini, an 8-year-old BMX Cyclist from Venezuela is determined to become an Olympic champion one day.
Camila Lachini has been riding ever since she turned three, and had got her bike as a Christmas present.
In an interview which was held in Los Teques city of Venezuela, she said that bikes are "too much fun." She also spoke about about how one can realise their dreams. "You have to have discipline, perseverance and if you have perseverance you will achieve your dreams," she said with a smile.
It was in 2016 when Camila lachini discovered BMX (bicycle Motorcross) while watching the Rio Olympics on television at home. She was just three years old, when she was awestruck by Colombia’s Mariana Pajon, a two-time Olympic champion. She was also dazzled by Venezuela’s Stefany Hernandez, who had won the bronze medal that year, and is currently lachini's coach.
Her father, Mario lachini, a 34-year-old merchant said that Camila decided to become an Olympian at that moment. He also added that BMX is a very competitive sport, and requires a lot of effort.
After this episode, Camila started riding in her neighbourhood, and also began her formal training private tracks and at state-owned facilities.
Jessica Zambrano, Camila's mother said that she does worry about her daughter getting injured.
As of today, lachini has won 25 medals and trophies including first place at Venezuela’s national BMX freestyle championship in February. She will now be participating at the Papendal BMX World Championships in the Netherlands, in August this year.
Meanwhile, her coach expressed the confidence she has in her student. "That girl is going to fly and she will be very prepared for her world championship," she had said in an interview last month.
