Yami Gautam Birthday: Gautam On Her Traditional Wedding

Yami Gautam spoke to SheThePeople about why she chose to have a wedding that was very different from how we have seen Bollywood weddings be and how it made headlines for its authenticity, when she said, "I think there are certain moments or certain events in your life that need to be celebrated for what they are or they should reflect who you are as a person."

Gautam further focussed on the fact that more than a wedding she was invested in the marriage, she said, "I think marriage is one such moment in your life and you're fortunate if your life partner is also aligned with your thought process." Gautam said that she and her husband Aditya Dhar are aligned in this mindset and speaking for the two of them she said, "We are extremely simple as people, we are extremely rooted in our tradition."

Yami Gautam On Her Dreams About Wedding While Growing Up

Yami Gautam also said that growing up she always wanted to feel and look like the photographs of her mother and grandmother and the way they had dressed up for their own weddings. Gautam said, "I didn't have any goals or any pressure, we wanted to keep it just as it would be if you're not a public figure." She said that marriage is a personal thing and how you do it should also be a personal choice.

"Even if there was no pandemic, it could have still been like that."

Gautam shares that her grandmother couldn't be at the wedding due to lockdown restrictions and she really wished for her presence. She has always wanted to wear her mother's saree but wearing it at her own wedding wasn't planned but became a beautiful surprise. Gautam also shared that she was never a person who was too interested in makeup so doing it all by herself that too on her wedding was a tricky part. It was her sister who helped her do the makeup and for all the events it was she who did the makeup, from Haldi to the main event. Gautam said, "I really wanted to absorb everything what that moment or that ritual is meant for." And she also concluded by saying that one can still look great and enjoy the moments without putting a hole in their pocket. Watch the full interview ">here.
