Fugitive Indian-born businessman Mehul Choksi was arrested in Dominica and will reportedly be brought to India after he disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda.
Mehul Choksi ran Gitanjali Gems Limited and is currently wanted in India for committing several crimes such a fraud, money laundering, cheating and criminal breach of trust. Choksi is allegedly involved in the infamous scam at a Punjab National Bank branch.
What is Priti Choksi's stand in her husband Mehul Choksi's arrest?
To Mehul Choksi's arrest, his wife Priti Choksi reacted saying that, "If someone really wanted him back alive, why did they need to torture and abuse him physically and mentally?" She further added that the alleged physical torture and mental abuse of Mehul Choksi has brought anguish to her family.
Priti Choksi also identified the alleged girlfriend of Mehul Choksi as only a woman known to her husband. Priti Choksi said that the woman would visit her husband Mehul Choksi when she came to Antigua. Priti Choksi also further said that "From what I have understood from people who have met her, the woman shown on media channels is not the same woman that they knew as Barbara."
Choksi also claimed that her husband has many health issues. She said that he is an Antiguan citizen and has the right to protection and safety from Antigua and Barbuda constitution. Priti Choksi added, "I've full faith in the rule of law of the Caribbean nations. We await his safe and rightful return to Antigua at the earliest."
