Priyanka Srivastava, a girl from Lucknow was one of the nine Indians to make NASA’s Perseverance Rover land successfully on Mars.
Shrivastava was a part of the systems engineer team associated with the mission in the capacity of a systems engineer. Apart from being a part of the Mars mission, Srivastava worked on three earlier flight missions in her four-year-long stint with NASA.
Who Is Priyanka Srivastava?
Priyanka Srivastava belongs from Lucknow and had her schooling done in Lucknow’s Mount Carmel till class 12 after which she pursued BTech in electronics and communication from Punjab University.
Srivastava's father has talked about how despite difficulties, they did not let their children's education suffer. He also mentioned that the family sacrificed their pleasure and comfort to fund Srivastava's education as funding her education was only easy till the time their daughter was studying at Punjab University but as she went to the University of Michigan, it became financially difficult.
"Her mother would not spend money on even things like a ‘bindi," said Srivastava's father.
But Priyanka Srivastava managed to assist her family financially as in the second year she got to check the copies of undergraduate students which helped her earn some cash. She also did a project in her third semester which was highly appreciated by the University and due to which she was sent to Jerusalem. Many globally acknowledged astronauts gathered there along with the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.
Srivastava also did her internship with the Denver branch of NASA and also got selected to work in NASA JPL, California, US, later.
