Who Is Kate Sharma? Meet The Charming Lead Of Bridgerton Season 2

Simone Ashley has garnered much praise from viewers for her performance as Kate Sharma in Season 2 of Bridgerton. The series makers' attempt at much-needed representation and inclusivity was appreciated by many, especially the Indian audience.

Sharma family—comprising of sisters Kate and Edwina Sharma and their mama Lady Mary—have been the key to the second season of the series set in regency-era Britain along with Anthony Bridgerton. Adding a much-needed diversity to the storyline and the cast, Simone Ashley, Charithra Chandran, and Shelley Conn shine through their characters.

Who is Kate Sharma? 

Kate Sharma arrives in Mayfair along with her sister and mother as Lady Danbury's guest. Ever since her arrival, she catches the eye of the people of Mayfair as she does with the audience. When asked about the character in an interview Simone Ashley stated, " It was so liberating and so much fun to play a character like that. Because you’re listening to your heart, you’re speaking your instincts, you’re sharing your opinion, and no matter what controversy that might spark, she’s brave. And it is fun to be brave. She really flies in that sense. I like that she’s a bit of a rule-breaker, and I’m excited for viewers to see that kind of character in this world. I want everyone to root for her as much as I root for her."

Simone Ashley, born Simone Ashwini Pillai, has proven to be the right fit to play Kate Sharma, the new feisty lead of Bridgerton. She considers herself a parental figure to younger half-sister Edwina and is grateful for Mama Sharma for loving her as her own.

Simone revealed more about Kate in her interview and said that there are many aspects of her Ashley empathised with. “She is quite strong-minded and strong-willed and a little stubborn. And she keeps herself to herself. Throughout the series, as she opens up more and is more vulnerable, endearing because of the values that she holds and the priorities that she fights for, and that’s her family.”

Ashley further added that her character may come off fierce but she at the end of the day is endearing because every action of her stems out of love for her sister and family.

Reportedly, Simone Ashley was cast for the role of Kate Sharma immediately. The audience has loved her as Kate and took to Twitter to appreciate her work in Bridgerton.

With Season 2 of Bridgerton providing Kate Sharma with her happy ending, fans are curious to know whether she will be returning in season 3. In an ">interview, Jonathan Bailey and Ashley hinted at their involvement in upcoming seasons, stating, “I think we intend to be at every wedding. We’ll be there for the siblings going forward, absolutely. We’re so excited as well to support the others in their love story, and that’s what it’s all about.” This definitely comes as good news to Kate Sharma fans.
