Who Is Joelle Rich? Johnny Depp's UK Libel Trial Attorney Turned Girlfriend

Johnny Depp is reportedly dating Joelle Rich, an attorney who represented him in his United Kingdom libel trial against The Sun.

The London-based lawyer Joelle Rich worked with Johnny Depp during his UK libel trial in 2020. Depp had sued The Sun for calling him a “wife-beater”. The UK court upheld that the outlet’s claims were “substantially true” and his ex-wife Amber Heard testified to back up the claims.

Rich was not on Depp’s legal team for the subsequent US defamation trial against his ex-wife Heard.

• Joelle Rich is a lawyer based in London who is currently dating actor Johnny Depp.
• The lawyer is a partner at Schillings, the international law firm. According to the firm's website, Rich helps clients in the public eye protect their privacy and reputation. She has "expertise in libel, privacy and copyright disputes".
• Rich is currently married but estranged from her husband and has two children with her estranged husband. She is in the process of divorcing her husband.
• According to her LinkedIn profile, before she worked at the law firm, she studied at the University of Birmingham in England and earned her law degree. She then attended the BBP Law School in London.
• Before her firm represented Depp in his case against The Sun, it previously represented the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle in a case against the publishers of Mail on Sunday in 2021.
• While Rich did not represent Depp during his US defamation case against Heard, she was reportedly present in the courtroom to show her "support" for the actor.
• Rich was photographed with Depp outside of the courthouse on May 3 and was photographed Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez inside the courtroom on May 16.
• Depp lost the UK libel case against The Sun and in March 2021, the court denied Depp’s request for an appeal in the case. During that time, Rich said she “seriously questioned” the UK court’s decision.
• US Weekly quoted a source and said that Rich and Depp's relationship was "serious" and that they were the "real deal".
