The sports drama is well received by the audience for its light humour and realistic characterisation of the spirit of Football and sportsmanship, so much that it has convinced fans that the series has been adapted from a real-life story. Here are some facts to know about Ted Lasso:

  • The series features actors including Jason Sudeikis, who is also the Executive Producer, Brett Goldstein, one of the creators of the show, Hannah Waddingham, Toheeb Jimoh, Brenden Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple and others. Sudeikis and Goldstein were first included as only writers in the series.
  • Goldstein’s character Roy Kent is based on the real-life Football player Roy Keane. Keane is known to be part of Manchester United. Similar to Keane, the character is also portrayed to be aggressive and short-tempered both on and off the field.
  • Team AFC Richmond’s home stadium Nelson Road Stadium is the real-life home stadium of Premier League Club Crystal Palace FC. Lasso’s first match as a coach in the series was against the same club.
  • Clearing the speculations regarding the series being a real-life story, Executive Producer and show-star Jason Sudeikis said that it has been inspired by experiences but is not entirely based on a real story.
  • Ted Lasso first started as a commercial in 2012 to promote NBC's Premier League. The commercial followed the same storyline as the series and was received by the audience so well that NBC decided to feature it again the following year.
