Hathiram Chowdhary is a cynical cop in East Delhi in Paatal Lok. He is tasked with dealing with a high-profile case that leads him into the unknown and perilous underbelly. The show uses the terms swarg, paatal, and dharti to describe the various social classes that exist in the world.

The terms 'heaven,' 'earth,' and 'hell' are used to characterise the current state and behaviour of humans. In season 2, the plot is meant to reveal another wrongdoing secret that will bring Hathiram and the audience to yet another experience.
