Before World War II, actors of LGBTQ community in Hollywood hid their sexual identities from the world and married straight people to comply with the societal expectations as well as stigma around same-sex relationships so that they could have a stable film career.
Badhaai Do is expected to be a sequel of the studio’s 2018 commercial triumph, Badhai Ho, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra. It grossed over Rs 221 crores worldwide. The National Award-winning film, also had actors Surekha Sikri, Gajrao Rao and Neena Gupta are playing pivotal roles.
In an interview with Mirror Now, the filmmaker said, “Their characters are distinct in that they include comedy, a certain amount of goofiness, and a few oddities. Only Raj and Bhumi could play them, in my opinion. And I have no doubt that their combustible chemistry will explode on screen.”
