Without a doubt, Regional Indian cinema has produced some top-notch films in the recent past. The nationwide success of films like Pushpa: The Rise, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2 and Vikram have further proved that regional films have a pan-India appeal due to their content and execution. It is no wonder then that many popular regional films are getting a Hindi remake.

The films on this list, however, are not your run-of-the-mill action movies with larger-than-life heroes. Well, some of the upcoming remakes can indeed be put into this category. But then there are films which have dared to go with the subject where no Hindi films ever have. Take Forensic, for instance, featuring Radhika Apte and Vikrant Massey, which had an OTT release last weekend. It is a crime-thriller revolving around a dark tale of child kidnappings and murders, based on a 2020 Malayalam film by the same name.

Here Are Upcoming Hindi Remakes Of Regional Films:

Anniyan

This psychological action thriller starring Vikram and Sadha is reportedly being remade into Hindi by Ranveer Singh and filmmaker S Shankar. The film tells the story of a consumer rights protection advocate who becomes disillusioned with the system and creates and alter ego who delivers vigilante justice.

The Great Indian Kitchen

This pathbreaking feminist Malayalam film revolved around a newly wed woman, originally played by Nimisha Sajayan, who is stuck in a house where she has to handle all the chores. How the woman breaks free of these norms and reclaims her life form the crux of this critically-acclaimed fim, In the Hindi version of the film, Sanya Malhotra will play the lead role.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo 

This action film, featuring Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde in significant roles, not only became one of the highest-grossing Telugu movies of the year 2020, but is also one of the highest-grossing Indian movies ever. The Hindi remake of this film will feature Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan in the lead. Directed by Rohit Dhawan, the remake is scheduled for release in November of this year.

Driving Licence 

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu play major parts in this comedy-drama, which is directed by Lal Jr. Selfiee, the Hindi version of this film, is now under production. Raj Mehta, who directed the recently released family comedy JugJugg Jeeyo, will helm the film which will include Emraan Hashmi and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles.

Kaithi

The 1976 Hollywood film Assault On Precinct 13 served as the original inspiration for this 2019 Tamil action thriller, which features Karthi in the lead. In 2020, Ajay Devgn stated on social media that he and Tabu would co-star as the lead actors in the Hindi version of this film, which is titled Bholaa.

Master

Vijay Chandrasekhar and Vijay Sethupathi play the lead characters in this action-packed Tamil film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, revolved around a gangster and an alcoholic professor, and was adored by the crowd. The Hindi adaptation of the film was announced just one day after it had been released in 2021. Salman Khan has reportedly been cast as the film's lead.

Hindi Remakes Of Regional Films, Upcoming Hindi Remakes of South Indian films photo credits: Deadline

This neo-noir Tamil action thriller, which was inspired by the Indian folktale Baital Pachisi, stars R Madhavan, Vijay Sethupathi, Shraddha Srinath, Kathir, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. The Hindi version of the film with the same title is also being directed by Pushkar and Gayathri, who helmed the original. Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan will be leading this Hindi remake.

Soorarai Pottru 

This action film, which stars Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, and Paresh Rawal, was largely based on the life of Simplifly Deccan founder GR Gopinath. According to reports, Akshay Kumar will play the lead role in the film's official Hindi remake, which will be directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, who also directed the original.

 U-Turn

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Aadhi Pinisetty, Bhumika Chawla, and Rahul Ravindran led this mystery thriller directed by Pawan Kumar. The film was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu and is a remake of the director's original 2016 Kannada film of the same name. The official Hindi version of the blockbuster thriller, starring Alaya F as the title character, would be produced by Ekta Kapoor, as revealed in 2021.
