Sudha Bharadwaj Birthday: Today, November 1 marks Sudha Bharadwaj's 60th birthday and her fourth one since she was imprisoned along with 5 other activists in the Bhima Koregaon case, December 31. Many activists, working professionals, students took over social media to wish her with the hashtag "Release Sudha Bharadwaj" and "Free Political Prisoners".

Bharadwaj is an activist, human rights lawyer and undertrial in the Bhima Koregaon case and was arrested by Pune Police from her sector 39 residence in Faridabad in October 2018. She was taken to Surajkhand police station and all her papers, as well as a laptop, were seized by the police. She was charged under sections 153 (a), 505, 117, 120 of the Indian penal code and also under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). As part of Janhit (a lawyer collective) she has worked in Chattisgarh as a lawyer for 29 years, and civil rights activist against land acquisitions.

- On October 27, Saba Naqvi tweeted, "Feel bad for Aryan Khan but let's not forget people like Sudha Bharadwaj committed to working for the most marginalised has been in jail for over three years. And the others accused in Elgar Parishad cases."

- Katyusha, a teacher of economics while wishing Bharadwaj on her birthday tweeted, "On her 60th birthday which is forced to spend in prison, let's recall some of the facts about #SudhaBharadwaj: She taught law in National Law Univerity, Delhi, the NHRC had taken her help in investigating into a case of linking of a family, She's taught against forcible land acquisitions from tribals to favour mining companies in Chattisgarh."

- Suchitra Vijayan, a writer tweeted an old article by Outlook India stating, "The State Has Left My Mother To Die, says Sudha Bharadwaj's Daughter, As Sudha's health deteriorates inside prison, her friends and family speak to Outlook about her incarnation and work among the tribals in Chhattisgarh. - Mini Nair, an author tweeted, "She turns 60 in jail today. She's fighting for the marginalised of our society. Wish we had an ounce of her courage. Happy Birthday, Sudha Bharadwaj- Respects."

- On Facebook, Smita Gupta while citing the poem by Nazim Hikmet, Since I Have Been In Prison, wrote, "We had hoped that this time she would get bail. We were hopeful all the previous times too. But more hopeful this time. However after all the arguments were over for default bail, after the judgement was reserved several months ago, we don't have a judgement to date... Today let me just say happy birthday to my dear friend Sudha Bharadwaj. With hope still alive, my gift is this poem by Nazim Hikmet and of course, Joan Baez!"
