Sonam played the titular character in the film and Rhea made her debut as a producer with it. Directed by Rajshree Ojha, Aisha was loosely based on the novel Emma by Jane Austen. Kapoor played the role of a wealthy Delhi based girl who fancied herself as a matchmaker but she would mess up in the process of setting her friends up with each other.

Sonam Kapoor was bullied during the making of Aisha

Kapoor held a Clubhouse session to mark 11 years of the release of Aisha and opened up about the challenges she faced during the making of the film. The actor also shared that she and her sister found strength in each other. "As women, we don’t realise that there is more power in numbers," she said.

When the sisters were bullied during making the film by some men in the industry, it made them realise that when there are more people together. Kapoor said it is easier to stand up to things and give each other strength. For her, one takeaway from Aisha would be that she always knew her sister was her best friend.

Rhea said how Aisha got a lot of hate in the beginning and it was only after several years that it 'became more accepted'. "What a lot of people don’t know about Aisha is that the film became more accepted and successful many years after its release," she said.

The only thing that was an outright success in the film was its song Gal Mithhi Mithhi Bol. It made a little bit of money but received a lot of hate initially. She added that people thought they made the film simply because they could. But its release forced both of them to grow up a lot.

Sonam Kapoor on gender pay gap

Sonam Kapoor recently made it to the headlines for speaking up against the gender pay gap in Bollywood. She said that she let go of certain movie offers because she stood up for pay parity. "The pay gap is ridiculous. I can stand up to it, but then I don’t get those roles, and I’m okay with that," she said. She further added that she can afford to do that. Over the past few years, she realised that she has no right to judge anybody. Being privileged, making choices was not difficult for her.
