Five Women-Led Shows Like 'Russian Doll' To Look Forward To

Netflix series Russian Doll is all set to return with a new season and mysteries. The Mystery-comedy series was very well received by audiences and critics. Now that season 2’s premiere is approaching, everyone is excited to see what the show has in store for the audience. While season 1 wrapped itself up neatly, the makers were not done yet.

The series follows the story of Nadia, a woman who dies on her 36^th birthday only to land in an endless time loop that keeps taking her back to the same evening again and again. Actor Natasha Lyonne, who has also co-written and co-created the series, is seen as the lead character Nadia. Season one of the series received three Emmys including Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Production Design, and Outstanding Contemporary Costumes.

Ms Marvel

The Marvel series was undoubtedly going to be a part of the list. First Muslim Woman Superhero written by a woman: what’s not to like about this series? Ms Marvel is the latest series of Marvel Cinematic Universe which will follow Kamala Khan who later adopts the name Ms Marvel when she learns she is also a superhero. Ms Marvel is scheduled to premiere on June 8, 2022, and will consist of six episodes.

The Essex Serpent

The Essex Serpent starring Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes will be premiering on May 13, 2022, across the globe on Apple TV. The series is based on a novel of the same name. The series is based on a widow Cora Seaborne played by Claire Danes, who is a widow who travels to Essex after learning about reports about a mythical serpent. Cora is widowed after her abusive husband's death. Meanwhile, Hiddlestone plays the role of a vicar who develops a bond with the widow; while Cleménce Poésy (Tenet) will play Stella Ransom, wife of Will and close friend of Cora.

She-Hulk

The series is a part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superhero movies. The series follows Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) who acquires Hulk-like qualities after a blood transfusion. The series is scheduled to be released in 2022 and will consist of ten episodes. It will also star Jameela Jamil, Mark Ruffalo and others. The series is created by Jessica Gao. The series will stream on OTT.

Queenie

Queenie is a novel written by Candice Carty-Williams’ that follows the tale of Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman whose life starts to unravel when she takes a break from her long-term boyfriend. The novel will now be adapted into a series that will be airing on Channel 4. Although the release date, the cast is yet to be announced, the series is expected to release in 2022.

Shining Girls

Shining Girls is American Thriller series starring Elisabeth Moss of The Handmaid’s Tale and Wagner Moura. Moss will play the role of Kirby, a woman who is working with a veteran reporter Dan Velazquez after learning that a recent murder is linked with her assault case that happened years ago. She attempts to understand her ever-changing present and also confront her past. The series is written by Silka Luisa and has been adapted from a book by Lauren Beukes which was a bestseller when it was released.
