Bollywood is far from progressive as an industry, it still aims to make the audience laugh by cracking jokes on women and their intelligence. If not doing the role of a furniture, women in Hindi films are mostly to just compliment the male protagonist and somehow it is acceptable to a wide audience.

Things might have started to change with sub plots in many films which have token 'strong women' and the really inspiring ones replacing the meek and timid heroine but it is still a long shot. Many box office hits get way with ridiculing women in the script by the language they use for them. The same language gets imbibed by its audience and most of have seen how that turns out.
