The fifth episode, 'Asylum,' was recently aired, and it was one of Marvel Studios' darkest, most intimately upsetting storylines yet. It was an episode about a man's shattered psyche eventually collapsing as he revisited some of his most terrible memories. The terror was regularly countered by moments of levity, as well as a reluctance to place the horror at the centre of the screen.

The Egyptian goddess Taweret, whom Steven identifies as the hippopotamus-headed woman seen in the fifth episode, explains to Spector and Steven that they are dead and that the 'hospital' is actually inside a boat travelling through the Duat. She weighs their hearts on the Scales of Justice to see if they may enter the Field of Reeds, and she tells them to work together to discover hidden memories that are causing their imbalance.

Later, Dr. Harrow persuades Spector to fully open up to Steven, and Spector hesitantly admits that Steven was unwittingly born as a result of their mother's abuse. Steven and Spector reunite, but their scales are unbalanced, resulting in hostile spirits attacking them. Steven is eaten by the Duat while fending them off. Spector finds himself in the Field of Reeds after the scales have been balanced.
