The film's star, Zeenat Aman, appeared on the show as a guest star and the contestants gave her tribute by singing songs from her movies. Shammukhapriya became the talking point after the show's episode aired as many people trolled her for "ruining" the popular song. Many Twitter users made memes about the reality show's contestants and accused of promoting 'mediocre' content.

Here are some of the reactions to Shanmukhapriya's performance:

Many of the trolls against Shanmukhapriya compared her to the recently eliminated contestant Anjali Gaikwad. Gaikwad according to many social media users was better at singing than Shanmukhapriya.

One Twitter user wrote that they mute their television when Shanmukhapriya comes to sing. They went on to blame Shanmukhapriya for 'ruining old melodies'.

Many others agreed with the same opinion and blamed the television channel Sony.

Some colourful memes were also shared at the expense of the young singer:

After the trolling started on social media, many came in support of Shanmukhapriya. One user wrote, " Stop trolling #ShanmukhaPriya so what if she sings in her own style, it's a singing show not copying show.... If u can't appreciate an artist don't discourage them."

Another user called out the Twitterati for 'ganging up' against a teenager. They wrote, " She's just 18, all of this trolling might actually affect her mental health. People here are ruthless, I'm no fan but this has to stop. She's confident, talented & innovative. Having opinions is one thing & ganging up on a F teenager is another."

The current season of Indian Idol 12 has been making headlines as many contestants including Shanmukhapriya have been trolled several times on the social media platform for their "mediocre" performances. The judges of the show have been made fun of for reacting in a certain way to the performances too. While many have called the social media outrage against the young contestants and reality show unfair.
