Bridgerton Star Charithra Chandran Stars In Lead Role For Olivia Hetreed's Drama

Synchronicity Films and Australian independent Dragonet Films are producing the six-part series with Charithra Chandran as a lead and Shankari Chandran as a story consultant. Author Olivia Hetreed is adapting Shankari Chandran's novel Song of the Sun God for television. 

Charithra Chandran Next Series Concept

Song of the Sun God is a family tale staged in Sri Lanka. The story is about the conflict and the crimes committed by both Tamils and Sinhalese during the country’s civil war. The novel revolves around the three generations, beginning from 1948 when the country gained Independence till the present day. 

Song of the Sun God mainly focuses on the youngest generation of the central family. Leela is a young woman living her life in London, largely disconnected from her own culture and unaware of family secrets. Leela is reported to be played by Charithra Chandran. 

The story is about Leela's quest to find her aunt Dhara, who vanished after a visit to London. Dhara is a medic who worked on the frontlines of jungle warfare for decades. Leela travels to her family in Australia and Sri Lanka to find her aunt. Meanwhile, on her journey, she uncovers her family’s complex history and the secrets which will set the course of their lives.

Girl With the Pearl Earring writer Hetreed’s adaptation follows the love, and misdemeanors of a Sri Lankan family across three generations in the UK, Australia, and Sri Lanka. Executive producers are Claire Mundell for Synchronicity and Karen Radzyner for Photoplay.

Mundell also added, “Shankari Chandran’s novel is a poignant, and deeply moving story of the Sri Lankan conflict. With its timely and universal themes, we feel the project will be well-received by global audiences. We are excited that Charithra is both joining the cast and the producing team.”

Charithra Chandran will also star in the rom-com podcast A Mid-Semester Night’s Dream.
