Blackpink UN Climate Change Conference Advocates: All the members of K-pop girl group Blackpink have been named as the advocates of UN's Climate Change Conference this year. On February 25, Blackpink members Jennie, Lisa, Rosé and Jisoo attended a formal event where they met Simon Smith, the British ambassador to the Republic of Korea, in order to be appointed as the global ambassadors of the UK conference.

The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson penned a thank you letter addressed to the Korean group for extending their support to the UN Climate Summit known as COP26.

Boris Johnson also congratulated the singers on the success of their recent video raising awareness about climate change. “Your recent video ‘Climate Action in Your Area #COP26’ was a huge success, being viewed over 10 million times across social media platforms. Climate change is the most important issue of our time… it is fantastic that you have chosen this moment to lend your voices to this critical issue,” he wrote.

The South Korea British Ambassador, Simon Smith, said, “The British Embassy Seoul is thrilled to be working with Blackpink and YG Entertainment ahead of COP26. We need to act now to protect our planet for future generations. We hope all the BLINKs around the world will join us on this journey."

Blackpink call Blinks for 'Climate Action'

Meanwhile, the K-pop idols remarked, “The first step is to educate ourselves about climate change. We need to know what’s happening, because it affects all of us. We want to learn more, and we hope our fans do too.”

Recently, a video titled “Calling All Blinks: Climate Action In Your Area! #COP26” was shared on the official social handles of Blackpink, asking all the fans to join their hands for the cause.

The conference on climate change is scheduled to take place in Britain in November 2021.
