In a horrific state of affairs, a tribal woman who happens to be the house help of a BJP leader in Jharkhand was found tortured to a point she couldn't even stand on her feet.

10 things to know about Seema Patra Arrest

  1. Sunita Khakha is a tribal woman who had come to Seema Patra's home for work eight years back from her village in Gumla.
  2. Khakha travelled with Vatsala Patra to Delhi for job purposes but returned to Jharkhand four years back. As per reports she worked for Vatsala Patra too.
  3. Khakha has alleged that she was tortured brutally for years by Patra. She told News18, "Madam used to beat me up when I used to make a mistake while working".
  4. Khakha was brought in with bruises and she complained of throat issues. Reportedly, she was beaten with a hot pan and iron rod and even asked to lick urine off the bathroom floor. She had a few teeth missing when she was admitted and couldn't stand up straight due to her injuries. The reports also suggest that she was held captive without being offered any food or water.
  5. Ayushuman, the son of Seema Patra has orchestrated the rescue of Khakha from the house. According to the reports, Ayushman has a friend who works for the government who had informed the police about the ordeal of Sunita Khakha.
  6. After the police were informed, they were able to rescue Khakha and admit her to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for treatment.
  7. As soon as a video of Khakha was uploaded on Twitter, it went viral with the hashtag asking Patra to be arrested soon. BJP announced the suspension of Seema Patra on Tuesday, August 30. The Jharkhand Governor stated in a press release that the DGP should submit a report over the incident soon.
  8. Allegedly the next day, August 31st, Seema Patra was arrested after being booked under the Indian Penal Code Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 346 (wrongful confinement), 374 (unlawful compulsory labour) and sections of the Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
  9. The India Express reported, Patra has said that she has been falsely implicated in the case.
  10. BJP leader and former CM Babulal Marandi visited Khakha in the hospital today and he said, "We came here to meet the victim, she’s poor lady and used to work at her house. The way she was beaten by her was not right. It’s good that she has been arrested and the party has also removed her."
