UP: Man Arrested For Terrorising Dalit Girl Who Refused To Wear Uniform

In the Uttar Pradesh district of Bhadohi, a former village chief has been arrested on charges of reportedly abusing a Dalit girl and using derogatory language against her. According to Girija Shankar Yadav, the incident happened in a school in the Manikpur village. He is in charge of the Chauri police station, where the case was registered.

He named Manoj Kumar Dubey as the former village chief. The Class 8 Dalit girl was not wearing the required school uniform, the police officer claims, and Dubey confronted her. Dubey was interacting with pupils in the school on Monday.

UP Man Terrorises Dalit Girl

Yadav conveyed, “While responding to his query, the girl said she will wear it once her father buys it for her. The girl’s reply enraged Dubey, who allegedly thrashed her, hurled casteist remarks at her and pushed her out of the school."

Yadav was accused with violating Sections 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with intentional insult with the aim to cause a disturbance, and Section 323 of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act). The police officer claimed that the suspect is evading capture and that a search has been started to find him.

According to the most recent National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) data, there were 12,714 total cases of crimes and atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SC) in the state, involving 13,325 survivors. This is the highest rate in the nation and has continued to rise, with 11,829 crimes against SCs reported in 2019.

In the another incident that happened in Hamirpur in August, five individuals were detained for using a belt to beat a girl who had gone to the woodland area naked in front of her lover. The event happened on August 16 and a commotion was caused after the accused's video became viral on August 18. Two of the suspects that were detained are minors.
