Who Is Phoebe Adele Gates?

Phoebe Adele Gates was born on September 14, 2002, in Medina, Washington. She has two older siblings, Rory John Gates and Jennifer Katharine, who are both married. Phoebe and her siblings stayed away from the public eye for many years. Their parents, Bill and Melinda Gates, met when Melinda was working at Microsoft. However, she quit the company when they got married.

Phoebe is the couple's youngest child. She attended New York-based Professional Children's School and later enrolled in the prestigious Juilliard School to study the arts, specifically ballet, music, and writing. Phoebe graduated from Stanford University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology. Phoebe shares her father's interest in technology and computers.

Although Bill Gates famously left Harvard University to pursue his passion, Phoebe was strictly told to finish her graduation. On her recently-launched podcast The Burnouts, she revealed, "They were very much like, you need to finish your degree. You don't just get to, like, drop out and do a company... Which is so funny because my dad literally did that!"

In a recent interview, Bill Gates shared that Phoebe did not want him to financially support her startup. "I would have kept her on a short leash and been doing business reviews, which I would have found tricky. And I probably would have been overly nice, but I wondered if it was the right thing to do. Luckily, it never happened," he recently told the New York Times.
