DC Comics Batgirl will star actor Ivory Aquino as the first live-action film to feature a trans actor. According to reports. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will be directing the upcoming DC film. The Philipino-American actor is known for her roles in When They See Us and Tales of the City.
As per reports, actor Ivory Aquino will be seen in DC’s Batgirl film as the first openly trans actor to feature in a live-action DC Comics film. She will be playing the role of Alysia Yeoh. The character was first introduced in 2011 in the Batgirl comics written by Gail Simone.
The character Alysia Yeoh is the best friend of superhero Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Police Commissioner of Gotham City, James Gordon. The film is set under HBO Max and will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Batgirl will also star actors including Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Brenden Fraser, Michael Keaton and Jacob Scipio.
Who is Ivory Aquino?
Ivory Aquino is an openly trans actor who is known for her roles in When They See Us and Tales of the City.
The Philipino-American actor is popular for playing the role of a transgender in ABC’s miniseries When We Rise. Even as a child, Aquino knew she was a transgender, she underwent a hormonal surgery in her preteens and her parents have been supportive of her identity. The actor came out as transgender in a press conference in 2017.
In her teens, Aquino moved to America to pursue her music career and enrolled herself in Berkelee College of Music but later she decided to pursue acting. Aquino has also been seen in TV series FBI: Most Wanted, High Maintenance and New Amsterdam.
Aquino will be seen next in upcoming DC live-action film Batgirl as Alysia Yeoh along with actors Leslie Grace as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayna/Batman, J.K. Simmons as James Gordon and Brenden Fraser as the film's villain among others.
