Qala, an upcoming musical thriller centres on a famous 1940s singer, who struggles with neurosis and insecurity in the wake of a rival's success. The thriller stars Tripti Dimri and Babil Khan, son of Irrfan.
On Tuesday evening, the Qala trailer was unveiled, starring Tripti Dimri. Dimri portrays the titular classical musician Qala, who hates music, in the 1940s-set musical thriller. Many viewers who watched the clip said it reminded them of Natalie Portman's critically acclaimed movie Black Swan.
The film Qala, set in the late 1930s and early 1940s, tells the tale of a young playback singer. It explores how her terrible past catches up with her and causes her to fall apart at the height of her hard-earned popularity.
A voice in the ">trailer asks Qala, if she enjoys music as it shines a light on her. No, she says, "I hate it." Then, we are taken to a colourised version of Kolkata (Calcutta at the time) in the 1940s, when Qala is employed as a vocalist. Fans adore her and honour her with golden vinyl. She is even highlighted in the media alongside the prime minister. She still doesn't have her mother's blessing, though.
Babil Khan's Debut Film Qala
Enter Jagan, a new "hero" who is "excellent at replacing people" (Babil Khan in his feature debut). As we see that Qala is losing both her singing ability and confidence, the tone of the trailer changes to one that is more stressful. Her uncertainty regarding Jagan's rise fuels her seeming descent into sadness and seclusion.
After watching the trailer, a fan wrote, "Such a beautiful song, lyrics, music and lovely singing... Love to know more about this song... Good luck, team. Looks very interesting.."
A user wrote,"#Qala trailer is one of the most interesting trailers from. With a Powerful cast, interesting premises, and mesmerizing music, this is another hit for #netflixIndia after #MonicaOhMyDarling."
